Paper Mache Workshop San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

I teach a paper mache techniques class in my studio in San Miguel de Allende. We start out making a paper mache paste from newspapers and carpenters glue. It is a process whereby the paper is turned into a kind of “wood clay”. It is time consuming and messy to produce but worth the effort because the final product is durable and light weight. The American artist Clyde Connell used similar techniques.

After producing the “masa” or paste. I teach various armature techniques. And finally I address the problem of finishing the surface either by sanding, staining, or painting.

The student is not required to bring materials. Please do not bring work in progress that you wish to finish. The student is not required to finish anything due to the long drying time involved in this material.

This is a one day, 8 hour techniques workshop. We are standing up most of the time. Lunch is included. Fee $100 USD. I can teach the class in English and Spanish.
